What is beige food?
The BMJ (British Medical Journal) says ultra-processed foods are often characterised by lower nutritional quality and the presence of additives, substances from packaging in contact with food, and compounds formed during production, processing, and storage.
For ease and simplicity I call it beige foods! They are generally beige in colour and look nothing like a real or natural human food. Man has interfered, processed or created it in a factory and these foods displaces the nutrients we should be getting from high quality foods. Beige foods are cheap, very stimulating to the appetite therefore easily overeaten. They are often full of industrial ingredients that our system doesn’t recognise as natural food.

I don’t know about you but there is a gazillion diets out there and if you have noticed, the obesity rates are off the scale and rising. Kids and adults alike are stacking on the pounds and as a result of our expanding waist lines we are starting to develop lifestyle diseases that were once unheard of. So what is going on?
I want to share with you the real reasons why we can’t stop eating ourselves into an early grave.
A 10% increase in the proportion of ultra-processed foods in the diet was associated with significant increases of 12% in the risk of overall cancer and 11% in the risk of breast cancer. A few studies have previously suggested that ultra-processed foods (beige foods) contribute to increasing the risk of metabolic disorders such as heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure – BMJ
First and foremost it is not our fault. We have been ‘beige washed’ (brain washed) by the food industry. The foods that we are encouraged to consume break our metabolism and make it impossible to achieve a healthy sustainable weight. We are wrongly led to believe that we need to exercise more and eat less. This is the biggest lie of all!

We evolved because of the natural unprocessed diet we ate for millions of years before ‘The Beige Age’ of today. But since the 70s when we started consuming refined vegetable oils, processed flours and sugar we have been unravelling and developing worrisome health trends that could see us out living our next generation.
